Day One — Arrive in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Arrive in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and transfer to your hotel. Meet your Tour Manager in the hotel lobby at 6:00 p.m. for a welcome dinner. Dinner Day Two — Pennsylvania Trolley Museum We begin with a visit to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. See its extensive collection of trolleys and experience a bygone era with a scenic 4-mile long ride aboard one of the museum’s restored streetcars. Later, we arrive in West Virginia. Breakfast Day Three — Don Knotts’ West Virginia and Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad Touring this morning is in Morgantown, where we hear tales of the hometown hero Don Knotts starting with his alma mater, West Virginia University. See Fife Street, which inspired the name of his most memorable character and his star on the sidewalk outside the beautifully restored Metropolitan Theater where he performed in his youth. Learn about Don’s most daring adventure from high atop Cooper’s Rock and visit Spruce Forest Artisan Village for unique local area crafts and souvenirs. Later, the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad brings us along the picturesque South Branch of the Potomac River. Enjoy your included dinner onboard the train and watch for the many eagles which call the area home. Breakfast and dinner Day Four — National Radio Astronomy Observatory and Cass Scenic Railroad Keep an eye open for rock climbers scaling the only “true peak” in the country at Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area. Later, we board the Cass Scenic Railroad for the journey up the mountain to Whittaker Station where breathtaking views and logging camp await. At the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, see the largest steering dish in the world along with exhibits and the historic company town. Your Tour Manager will have dining suggestions tonight in the pretty town of Lewisburg. Breakfast Day Five — The Greenbrier Resort’s “Bunker” and Tamarack The 5-star Greenbrier Resort is home to one of the best kept secrets in the nation, The Bunker. Built during the Cold War era, The Bunker was meant to house the Senate and House of Representatives in case of nuclear attack. In the picture-perfect town of Lewisburg, have lunch on your own and discover why it was once voted America’s Coolest Small Town. At Tamarack, over 1,200 artisans gather with their crafts, including Greenbrier-trained chefs who prepare our dinner. In the evening, learn about life in a coal mine with a special performance of storyteller Granny Sue (August & October departures) or Coal Camp Memories (September departures). Breakfast and dinner Day Six — Coal Mine Tour and Jetboat Excursion Our day begins at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine where we travel underground in authentic mining cars. We also visit the re-created company town and have time for lunch on your own in Fayetteville. We visit the New River Gorge visitor center, we take the Hawk’s Nest State Park aerial scenic tram to the bottom of the gorge. Next, our covered jetboat Miss M. Rocks whisks us along the river for an exciting journey. Tonight, enjoy dinner and tour at the beautiful Adaland mansion, built in 1870. Breakfast and lunch Day Seven — The Durbin Rocket, Salamander and American Mountain Theater Climb aboard the steam-powered Durbin Rocket today for a scenic ride along the Greenbrier River with mountain views of Monongahela National Forest. Enjoy a “hobo” lunch complete with bindle stick before our next excursion aboard the Cheat Mountain Salamander. Large windows and scenic panoramas combine with a stop at the “High Falls of Cheat” to make this an unforgettable day. Tonight, dinner is at the Railyard Restaurant followed by an evening of live entertainment at the American Mountain Theater, the freshest sound in the mountains. Breakfast, “hobo” lunch and dinner Day Eight — Return Home We end with a group transfer to Pittsburgh International Airport at 8:00 a.m. for flights home departing after 1:00 p.m. Breakfast
