Day One — Depart the USA Today you’ll depart the USA on your overnight flight to Warsaw, Poland, the largest city in Poland. Day Two — Warsaw, Poland Upon arrival, you’ll be met by a Mayflower Tours representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax or explore on your own. Tonight you’ll join your Tour Manager and fellow travelers for dinner. Dinner Day Three — Warsaw, Poland’s Capital for Over 400 years Steeped in history, Warsaw is one of the most strategic cities in Europe. You’ll discover the beauty of this city on an included full day sightseeing excursion. As you stroll along the Royal Way you’ll view St. John’s Cathedral and visit the Royal Castle which has been faithfully restored to its pre-World War II splendor. It was once the official residence of Poland’s kings and formerly housed the Polish Parliament. See the reconstructed Old Town and its quaint Market Square. As you visit Lazienki Park you’ll see why its formal gardens and the neoclassical Lazienki Palace make it one of the most beautiful parks in the heart of the city. One of its most important attractions is the statue of Frederic Chopin. Concerts are held in this lovely park every summer in tribute to the great composer and Warsaw’s favorite son. You’ll also view the baroque Wilanów Palace and surrounding garden which was the former summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski. The evening is yours to experience Warsaw on your own. Breakfast Day Four — Kraków/A Visit to Czestochowa, Poland’s Holiest Icon After breakfast you’ll depart for Kraków for a three-night stay. Along the way, lunch is included at a local restaurant. After lunch you’ll stop at the famed Monastery of Jasna Góra in Czestochowa – the third largest Catholic pilgrimage site in the world and the national shrine of Poland. The miraculous icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa is housed in the Chapel of the Black Madonna. For centuries, the Polish people have believed that this reverent painting holds supernatural powers. After checking into your hotel in Kraków, the evening is free for you to enjoy dinner on our own. Breakfast and lunch Day Five — Kraków, The Cultural Center of Poland Kraków is known for many things throughout history, including being a former capital of Poland, the home of the late Pope John Paul II and the only major city in Poland to remain unscathed by World War II. Your day begins with a walking tour of Kraków. This thousand-year-old city retains its beauty and charm and is proud of its Old Town which was included on UNESCO’s first list of World Heritage Sites in 1978. The highlight of the Old Town is Market Square, the largest in Europe, and the 16th-century gothic "Cloth Hall" — the world’s oldest “shopping mall.” Discover the city as you meander among the cobblestone lanes on the included walking tour. You’ll see the imposing Wawel Castle, coronation site of Polish monarchs, perched atop a hill overlooking the Vistula River. In the afternoon you’ll enjoy an included visit to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, another UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous attractions near Kraków. You’ll descend nine levels to explore the amazing grottoes of crystalline carvings, the subterranean lake with stunning colors and the Chapel of St. Kinga, an impressive "cathedral" with every feature carved out of solid salt. You won’t believe your eyes! Dinner is included this evening in Kraków. Breakfast and dinner Day Six — Sightseeing in Kazimierz and Auschwitz This morning you’ll travel to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp Museum of Martyrdom which provides one of the most memorable lessons in modern European history. Between 1940 and 1945 more than one million prisoners perished in the gas chambers of this Nazi concentration camp. In 1947, the Polish government preserved these grounds as a State Museum and in 1979 it also became a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing the horrors of the Holocaust. The visit includes a film showing the camp’s liberation, the flower-strewn Death Wall, national memorials, the railway line and the remains of hundreds of barracks, all of which constitute a moving testimony to the number of lives lost. This afternoon you’ll visit Kazimierz which showcases the historic center of Jewish culture since the 16th century. The main attractions of the district are Szeroka Street (where Schindler’s List was filmed); Isaac, High and Old Synagogues; Remu’h Synagogue and its cemetery and the "Pod Orlem" (Eagle) Pharmacy. Breakfast Day Seven — Brno, Czech Republic/Prague This morning you depart Kraków and travel to the Czech Republic for a two-night stay in Prague. Enroute you’ll visit Brno, the second largest city of the Czech Republic. This evening is free for you to enjoy Prague and its remarkable culture. Breakfast Day Eight — Prague, The Enchanting Capital of the Czech Republic In addition to being one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Prague also offers a cultural and historic past. The Old Town Square is home to pastel-colored buildings, the Church of Our Lady of Tyn, the Town Hall and famous Astronomical Clock which displays the actual time as well as the movement of the sun and the moon around the signs of the Zodiac. Another focal point of this fairytale city is the vast complex of the 9th-century Prague Castle with its regal palaces, gardens and churches, still used by the government today. On an included city tour you’ll see Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square and the medieval Charles Bridge adorned with statues that each tell a story of Prague’s colorful past. Enjoy an included dinner with your fellow travelers this evening. Breakfast and dinner Day Nine — Prague/USA This morning, transfer to Prague Airport for your flight home. All too soon your adventure comes to an end but you’ll bring back memories of European history to last a lifetime. Breakfast
