Traveler Topic: Traveling with Medications

When traveling with medication, many question what is allowed given the restrictions on liquids. However, those requiring medication, have medical devices or the like, simply need to adhere to the following guidelines:

Inform the TSA Officer that you have medically necessary liquids – which may exceed 3.4 ounces. These may include freezer packs, IV bags, pumps and syringes. Although not required, TSA suggests your medication is clearly labeled. Typically the liquids will be screened by X-ray or screening may require additional steps, such as opening the liquid or transferring to another container. It is recommended that you carry medications on your carry on in the event you need immediate access to them. Keep your medications in a location that is easily accessible and always inform the TSA Officer before being screened.
