Day One — Lincoln’s New Salem and Twain’s Hannibal We begin our touring at Abraham Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site. It was here that a young Abraham Lincoln spent 6 years of his early adulthood. He clerked in a store, split rails, served as postmaster and was elected to the Illinois General Assembly in 1834 and 1836. Then, we travel to the pretty river town of Hannibal, Missouri. After checking into our hotel we climb aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat for a narrated dinner cruise along “Ol’ Man River.” Dinner Day Two — Mark Twain and Winston Churchill We begin the day at the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum. Consisting of eight buildings, six of which are on the National Register, the complex includes interactive museums and a collection of original Norman Rockwell paintings. Learn how a young boy growing up in the small village of Hannibal became one of the world’s most beloved authors. In Fulton we arrive at America’s National Churchill Museum. Located on the campus of Westminster College, the museum shows us who Winston Churchill was, what he did during the course of his long life and why his legacy continues to inspire new generations today, fifty years after his death. Later, we arrive Jefferson City. Breakfast and dinner Day Three — Solar Eclipse Day in Jefferson City This morning a local guide joins us for a tour of Jefferson City, Missouri’s capital city including the state Capitol Building to learn the history of the state. Completed in 1917, the Capitol covers three acres and features artwork from such notable artists as Thomas Hart Benton and Sir Frank Brangwyn, including the noted three-point perspective paintings scattered throughout its hallways. Located on the grounds is the Missouri Veterans Memorial and the impressive Governors Mansion sits next door. Then, we head to the Canterbury Hill Winery and Restaurant to view one of the earth’s great wonders, a total solar eclipse. We will enjoy an included lunch and will have special eye-wear and seating to witness this once-in-a-lifetime event. Afterward, we tour the Missouri State Penitentiary to learn its 168-year history. We see A-Hall, the oldest building still standing, the dungeon cells, the gas chamber and hear the history of its famous inmates. Breakfast and lunch Day Four — Saint Louis Gateway Arch and Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Following a portion of Historic Route 66, we come to Saint Louis. Here, a local guide shows us the city’s history from its earliest neighborhoods to its most modern structures. From Civil War sites like the Old Courthouse and Saint Louis Arsenal to the Gateway Arch and the new Busch Stadium, Saint Louis has a rich history. At the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial the impressive Gateway Arch dominates the landscape. We take to the River for a narrated cruise showcasing the city’s rich architecture, including the stunning Gateway Arch. Tonight, a farewell dinner is hosted by our Tour Manager. Breakfast and dinner Day Five — Abraham Lincoln Museum and Home After breakfast we depart for home. We make a stop at the impressive Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum for a look at the life of America’s 16th President. Later, we arrive home. Breakfast
