Day One — Depart We travel south today and enjoy a welcome dinner and overnight in Missouri. Dinner Day Two — Meet Fort Smith’s “Miss Laura” Arriving in Fort Smith, Arkansas today our first stop is at “Miss Laura’s Social Club,” now the town’s Visitor Center. We’ll meet Miss Laura herself, tour the Victorian mansion and hear how this former bordello has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. At the Fort Smith National Historic Site you can walk where soldiers drilled, pause along the Trail of Tears and stand where justice was served by Judge Issac C. Parker. Tonight, Miss Laura’s Players present the comedy skit entitled The Medicine Show for our evening enjoyment. Breakfast and dinner Day Three — Touring Oklahoma’s Cherokee Nation Today we venture into Oklahoma, the heart of the Cherokee Nation. Our first stop is at the cabin of Sequoyah, the man credited with creating the written word of the Cherokee people. After an included lunch at the Restaurant of the Cherokee we pay a visit to the George Murrell Home. Built in 1845, this Greek Revival-style house was home to Murrell and his wife Minerva, the daughter of a wealthy and influential Cherokee family. Later, we come to the Cherokee Heritage Center. Visit the Ancient Village, tour the galleries of the Cherokee National Museum and see the “Trail of Tears” exhibit. On the National Register of Historic Places, it is a premier cultural center of Cherokee tribal history, culture and the arts. Breakfast and lunch Day Four — Arkansas & Missouri Railroad A local guide joins us this morning for a narrated tour of Fort Smith. The Historic District includes the Brigadier General William O. Darby Monument, the Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves Memorial and the future site of the U.S. Marshals Museum. Then, we climb aboard the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad for the journey through the mighty Arkansas River Valley and the majestic Boston and Ozark Mountains. Back in Fort Smith, we are treated to lunch at the Clayton House followed by a tour of this Victorian home of the Judge Parker’s Prosecuting Attorney. We visit the Fort Smith Museum of History dedicated to preserving the region’s history before our included Italian dinner tonight. Breakfast, lunch and dinner Day Five — Fayetteville and Mountain Home In Fayetteville, a local guide joins us for a driving tour. See Ridge House, the town’s oldest standing home built in 1836, pass the first Wal-Mart ever built, the first home of Bill and Hillary Clinton and walk the infamous “Trail of Tears.” Before lunch we stop at Terra Studios to see where the “Blue Birds of Happiness” are made. Later, we come to the Ozark town of Mountain Home where we check into our cabins. Tonight, dinner and live musical entertainment is in The Ozark Folk Center State Park. Breakfast, lunch and dinner Day Six — Ozark Folk Center We begin today with a hearty Ozark buffet breakfast before engaging in two hands-on workshop experiences. A variety of workshops are offered including Corn Shuck Angel making, candle-making, wire jewelry and an apothecary soap bunny experience. In Sikeston, our farewell dinner is at Lambert’s Café, Home of the Throwed Rolls. Breakfast and dinner Day Seven — Travel Home Today, we travel home from our Arkansas adventure. Breakfast
